Day 13
Technique: Necklace made of elements
Win: I think so
Challenge:
• To make a necklace using different elements that still work together as one piece
• To create a centrepiece using the Mokume Gane technique with black and translucent clay
Lessons Learned:
• Sculpey translucent does not always behave or look the way you expect it to
• Black combined with pearlescent gold creates a combination I really enjoy
• Drilling holes in the pieces while they are still slightly warm and flexible gives a much better result and greatly reduces cracking
Confidence Level: 9½ /10
Notes:
• I am really loving this journey. Each day brings new learning, new discoveries, and fresh inspiration.
Reflection
Today I tried composition. A necklace made of multiple elements – shapes, textures, and colours that must agree with one another. Learning to make those pieces “talk” to each other is a big step for me as I don’t always get colour combos right.
Pattern
I am drawn to structured creativity. I like techniques that have a clear process (frames, cutters, Mokume Gane, inserts), but within that structure I experiment with colour, texture, and assembly.
