Day 37 – 100 Days of Polymer Clay

Day 37 felt like a study in contrast, not just in colour, but in control.

The idea itself was soft and intuitive: a gentle ombre stack of pink discs, shifting shade by shade, like a quiet gradient unfolding. That part worked beautifully. The slightly off-centre stringing gave it exactly the relaxed, boho character I was hoping for, less rigid, more alive.

But the material had its own personality.

Working with Fimo introduced a layer of unpredictability that sat slightly at odds with what I was trying to achieve. It felt sticky, less cooperative, and harder to refine. At this stage, where I am actively trying to improve my finishing and precision, that lack of control becomes more noticeable, and more frustrating.

And yet, that in itself is a useful clarity.

Not every material supports every stage of learning. There is a reason certain brands are consistently chosen, and today made that very evident. Understanding what doesn’t work for me is just as valuable as discovering what does.

Even with that challenge, the outcome was strong. The design carried through, the concept translated well, and the piece feels intentional.

Confidence remains high, not because everything was easy, but because I am starting to recognise which variables matter most, and which ones are worth removing.
