Technique: Clean and simple paperclip with embellishment
Win: Yes
Challenge:
- To create a shape with crisp edges
- To add clean and simple embellishments
- To achieve excellent finishes despite the difficult curves required for sanding
- Lessons Learned
- I love working with basic shapes, but I also love adding layers to create interest and dimension
Confidence Level: 9/10
Notes
- I used Bake & Bond to adhere the pieces together. This can be tricky because the layers can shift when moving the piece into the oven. One of mine shifted slightly before baking and I only noticed afterwards
- I found that perhaps I was using too much clay glue because it is very slippery until baked and may cause the items to shift. I got better results if I used small drops of glue (which is counter-intuitive for me) to get a better hold. Also, pre-baking and then gluing worked well for me
- I used tinfoil supports to hold the layers up during baking so the shapes would not bend or collapse
- You can see that the rabbit’s head cracked off. I will need to go back in and mend that, but apart from that, I am very happy with the overall results
- I am also discovering that my confidence level, and my win/loss ratio actually has two parts. I think it is a win if I like the end product, but I also tend to consider it a win if I learned something. So there’s that..
