I spent a lovely day with Colin, and it was very pleasant. Another friend of his came to see him today, and it was very moving to see how much his friends love and miss him. I think he is longing to already be further down the journey, but he did say that they mentioned to him the possibility of weekend visits. I can’t wait! I know I have a lot of learning to do, lots of gear we will need, and lots of cleaning up and making the house wheelchair-friendly, but that is the small stuff. He said it most-likely won’t be this weekend, but it may be coming up soon.
He have the family meeting tomorrow with his whole medical team, including Doctors, Social Worker, Physical and Occupational Therapists, and more – we will be able to ask all our questions. They will give us an idea of our road map, time-lines, and goals. I think it is quite exciting. I am longing to know more bits and pieces of information on what we will need to do and how we will need to make chances to be happily updated in the new normal.
Colin seemed a little down again today, but I think he is doing ok, and keeps showing me every slight progress on his left arm and right wrist. I long to spend more time with him – it is a bit interrupt-y at the rehab with therapists working on him 3 times a day, having his temperature and blood pressure and blood sugar taken 2 or 3 times a day, being turned every 2 hours…
Another spot of good news is that the Doctor has gone ahead and ordered a special anti-bed sore mattress. I have been trying to go about getting quotes and motivation letters in order to see if the medical aid will pay, but now that is all circumvented and it should be there for him soon. This be a huge relief for him – he has got a nasty bed sore on the lower back which was really quite bad. It has recovered well, but he is also starting to get some on his heels, upper back, and even on his head. This mattress will assist with this problem so much, and even if the medical aid wasn’t going to pay for it – I was going to try make a plan as he really wants one. It would also be better for his health in the long run. He also said that one of the therapists mentioned that they want to try get him back on-line next week. Best. News. Ever!
See you tomorrow morning my love – sleep well, and dream of happy things. <3
