Day 2
Technique: Basic Mokume Gane Pendant
Win: Definitely ✔️
Challenge:
- I’ve tried this technique once before with limited success, so I approached it with a bit of caution.
Lessons Learned:
- A backing piece is essential. Adding the finished design onto a separate base makes it far more stable.
- When I tried forming the entire pendant as one thick piece, I had to shave away too much clay to reveal the pattern. Starting thinner and building onto a backing works much better.
Confidence Level: 8½ /10
Notes:
- The layers need to be deep enough to reveal the pattern clearly, but not so deep that the detail becomes heavy or muddy.
- The overall thickness of the piece has a big impact on how the final pattern appears.
I wanted to have a sort of abstract, but also obvious flower pattern. I think this works well. My finished were a little better today, but I still need to get the knot right.
Overall, I am happy with these, and I will be wearing them myself.
Thanks for popping in. See you all tomorrow.
xx
