Day 28 – 100 Days of Polymer Clay

Technique: Using all the clay scraps to create well-finished simple dangle earrings

Win: Yes

Challenge:

• To create a fun colour using all the scraps. It turned into a slightly muddy pink that was unexpectedly pretty

• To create a batch of simple dangle earrings while focusing specifically on clean, well-finished edges

Lessons Learned:

• Finishing the edges and corners often takes longer than cutting and baking the pieces. The final polish is where most of the time goes

• When marking a pilot point for drilling, accuracy disappears completely if I forget to wear my glasses. Precision and visibility go hand in hand

Confidence Level: 9/10

Notes:

• My battery-operated Dremel works beautifully for sanding edges, although it has a habit of draining the battery quickly

• I initially thought slower drill speeds would offer better control, but the highest speed actually gives me more stability when using the drilling jig

Material Mastery:

• Clean edge finishing significantly improves the overall look of even the simplest shapes

• Higher drill speeds can provide smoother, more controlled holes when used with a jig
