Technique: Simple pattern dangle earrings
Win: Yes
Challenge:
- To create a clean, simple semi-circle earring set using a patterned surface and pearl accents for a slightly blingy look
- To manage edge finishes neatly and consistently
Lessons Learned:
- I aimed for a subtle blend of brown, purple, and pink, but once textured, the colour softened more than expected. It’s still beautiful, just quieter than I had planned — a reminder that texture can shift not just surface, but presence
- The gold powder was initially too bold, so I rubbed much of it back to reveal the colour beneath. The result feels more balanced and considered, and I am beginning to trust that “less” often brings more harmony
Confidence Level: 9/10
Notes:
- I created a full circle and then cut it in half, texturing each piece separately. This gave me better control and a cleaner outcome
- I drilled the hole slightly off to the top corner so the earrings hang at an angle rather than straight. This small adjustment adds movement and a touch of elegance
Reflection:
There is a growing awareness in my work now — not just of how to make something, but of when to hold back, soften, or adjust. I am starting to recognise that refinement often lives in restraint, and that each small decision shapes the overall feeling of a piece
