Day 30
Technique: Altered mokume gane pendant and matching earrings
Win: Absolutely
Challenge:
- To use the last of my scrap clay to build a slab suitable for mokume gane cuts using a wavy blade
Lessons Learned:
- Almost any colours can work together when grounded with a strong dark colour. Using black unified the design and made the underlying colours stand out beautifully
Material Mastery:
- Layering scrap clay into structured “sausages” creates surprisingly controlled colour variation
- The wavy blade is especially effective for revealing layered patterns, giving depth and movement to the surface
Confidence Level: 10/10
Notes:
- I used all my remaining scrap pieces to build a slab by arranging rolled “sausages” of colour in lines, creating a varied but intentional palette
- The wavy blade worked particularly well, cutting through the black layer and revealing the colours beneath in a very striking way
- The pendant feels playful and full of movement, and I made a pair of matching studs to complete the set
