Technique: Abstract pendant – revisited
Win: Mostly
Challenge:
- To create a larger pendant similar to the previous abstract piece using an extruder pattern
- To create smooth edges, neat knots, and round beads
- To achieve a more pleasing ratio between the beads and the main element
Lessons Learned:
- Knotting is still tricky and requires continued skill development
- Clean finishes remain challenging and need ongoing practice
- I don’t always have a clear vision of the final piece, and I am still learning how to combine elements in a visually pleasing way
- Larger pieces and brighter colours tend to highlight imperfections more clearly
Confidence Level: 8/10
Notes:
- I like the colours I used for this version and experimented with a new large round pendant cutter
- The larger scale makes the piece feel more bold and noticeable
- The size and brighter colours seem to emphasize imperfections more than darker designs
- I would still wear this piece, but it would benefit from further refinement
- The finishes appear slightly less refined than the earlier pair, although this may be due to a more critical eye, brighter colours, and higher expectations
Material Mastery:
- Bright colours and larger formats reveal surface imperfections more than small or dark pieces
- Scaling up a design requires greater precision in finishing, proportion, and construction
