Technique: Simple dangle earrings with leaves and texture
Win: Yes
Challenge:
• To create a simple circle dangle earring with contrasting colour studs
• To create a stem and leaf design that matched the contrasting stud colour
• To create a symmetrical set of stems and leaves without them looking too stiff or identical in a “factory clone” sort of way
Lessons Learned:
• I’m realising more and more that I prefer mixing my own colours, because the exact shade I imagine almost never exists in my clay stash already
• I first tried sculpting the leaves completely by hand, but they ended up looking a little uneven and awkward
• Using a mould gave a much cleaner and more refined result, while still keeping some organic detail
• I really like the subtle texture on half of the dangle piece. It catches the light just enough to be noticeable without overwhelming the design
• Symmetry in earrings is deceptively tricky. Tiny differences suddenly become very obvious when pieces are hanging side by side like judgmental twins 👀
