Technique: Texture Roller Choker
Win: Mostly
Challenge:
- To experiment with a new texture roller on metallic clay to see whether a mica shift effect would appear. Spoiler alert: no, as the roller pattern was not deep enough to create the contrast
- To create a simple choker design with a flower focal point
Lessons Learned:
- Mica shift techniques work best with deep, sharply defined patterns
- I think the gold also worked better than the silver for the shift appearance
- Texture rollers create their own kind of beauty, even without a mica shift effect
- I really love the soft “quilted” look this roller produced. It gives the piece texture and dimension without feeling overly busy
- Sometimes an experiment does not produce the intended result, but still leads to something unexpectedly lovely
Confidence Level:
7/10
A tiny clay plot twist: the mica shift quietly exited stage left, but the texture roller wandered in wearing a beautifully quilted coat.
