Day 55
Technique: Translucent flower dangles, and marbled two-colour studs
Win: Yes
Challenge:
- To use translucent clay with an opal-like effect to create a pair of flower dangles
- To create a pair of two-colour studs using a marbled effect combined with a solid colour
Lessons Learned:
- Baking pieces with uneven heights requires support to keep everything level and prevent shifting or separation
- Translucent clay is less see-through than I expected, but produces a soft, beautiful effect when used thinly
- Pressing clay into metal frames requires both liquid clay (before baking) and adhesive (after baking) for durability
- Using a generous amount of liquid clay before baking significantly improves adhesion and final strength
Confidence Level: 9/10
Notes:
- The translucent effect feels subtle rather than dramatic, but adds a delicate, almost “glow-from-within” quality
- A good reminder that structure and support during baking are just as important as design
