Day 3
My journey so far – Day 1 was cautious curiosity. Day 2 was technical awareness. Day 3 feels like bold play with structural complexity. It feels as though this creative momentum is building its own little weather system.
Technique: Insert-in-a-plug technique (I saw an image of this on Pinterest)
Win: Absolutely – more than I imagined.
Challenge:
- Getting the offset circles into the plug so they created a loose, scribble-like effect
- Cutting the cane into a round shape without distorting the image
Lessons Learned:
- If you cut out a section and want to reinsert it with a “frame” wrapped around it, it’s difficult to get it to fit perfectly back into the original edges
- Reinserting a piece is tricky because you need to manipulate it before placing it back, which can slightly alter the shape and make alignment more challenging
Confidence Level: 9/10
Notes:
- This isn’t what I imagined at the start, but I absolutely love the outcome
- The original idea came from Cynthia Tinapple over at Polymer Clay Daily. I saw an image of the plug on Pinterest and wanted to try it for myself. • This piece feels like movement caught mid-thought, like a doodle that decided to become architecture. Here are a few names that lean into that energy
- With a little help, I’ve called this piece Framed Whimsy
I find I am happier than I thought I would be – this set of earrings worked out so well. Of course, there is lots of room for improvement, but I am happy with the way I got the technique to work.
Thank you for popping in today – I have managed 3 for 3 so far. Check in again tomorrow for Day 4. I don’t know what I will be doing, but it will be another learning, so I am excited.
Till tomorrow.
Still playing. Still learning.
