Technique: Mica powder through a stencil
Win: Yes
Challenge:
- To press a stencil onto rolled out clay and brush mica powder onto the exposed sections
- To create a clean impression without shifting the stencil during application
Lessons Learned:
- The stencil naturally wants to move, so I had to work slowly and carefully to keep the pattern crisp
- I really love the effect of using mica powder that is almost the same colour as the clay itself. The highlights catch the light beautifully without becoming overpowering
- The subtle shimmer gives the piece a soft, elegant finish rather than a dramatic contrast
- Small movements can blur the design very quickly, so gentle pressure and patience make a big difference
Notes:
- I am leaning more and more towards pendants made from multiple shapes and components
- I also love adding asymmetrical elements to necklaces, as they make the finished pieces feel more organic and visually interesting
Confidence Level:
9/10
