Day 90 – 100 Days of Polymer Clay

Technique: Clean, Hammered Gold Leaf Earrings

Win: Yes

Challenge:

  • To use gold leaf to create a smooth, flat surface on a pair of earrings and then add a hammered texture effect

Lessons Learned:

  • I have experimented with several ways of creating a hammered texture by hand, but I don’t think I am patient enough to achieve a consistently even finish
  • This was my first time using a new texture roller designed for a hammered effect, and it produced exactly the look I was hoping for

Confidence Level: 9/10

Notes:

  • I would like to revisit this technique and finish a future pair with resin
  • For this first attempt, I chose to leave the earrings matte so that the hammered texture could remain the star of the show
  • Sometimes the right tool really does make all the difference
