Technique: Skinner blend with glitter inclusion
Win: Yes
Challenge
- To create a Skinner blend using a very small amount of clay
- To incorporate glitter into the clay to add a subtle shimmer
- To use silver findings to elevate a simple circle earring design
Lessons Learned
- Creating a Skinner blend with a small amount of clay requires a slightly different approach than the standard method. With less clay available, it is important to control the shape and placement more carefully to maintain a smooth transition between colours.
- Sometimes the smallest additions can have the biggest impact. The silver findings transformed a very simple pair of circle earrings into something that felt much more polished and complete.
- Glitter can be surprisingly effective when used with restraint. I added just enough to create a soft sparkle without overwhelming the blend, resulting in a subtle shine that catches the light beautifully.
- Not every project needs a complex shape or technique to be successful. Thoughtful finishing touches can elevate even the simplest designs.
Confidence Level
9/10
This project was a reminder that refinement often comes from the details. A simple design, a carefully controlled blend, a touch of glitter, and the right findings combined to create a finished piece that felt elegant without being complicated.
