Technique: Hole-y Pendant (Revisited)
Win: Yes
Challenge:
- To create another pendant using a technique I tried in the very early days.
Lessons Learned:
- One of the unexpected gifts of a long-term challenge is seeing progress that happens so gradually you barely notice it. Comparing this pendant to my original attempt made me realise just how much I have improved over the past 93 days
- I used a rough skinner blend made from scrap clay beneath the black layer, allowing hints of colour to show through the openings. The effect is subtle but adds a lot of interest, and I really like the final look
- Adding texture to the black clay made a significant difference. It gives the piece more depth and character than the smoother finish of my earlier attempt
- Working on a larger pendant allowed the technique to shine, but the matching earrings reminded me that smaller-scale work still requires more precision and practice
Confidence Level: 9/10
Notes:
- The pendant is a definite improvement on my first attempt and clearly shows the skills I have developed during this challenge
- The earrings are acceptable, but not yet where I would like them to be. As I have discovered before, working at a smaller scale demands greater care and control, and that is something I will continue to practise
- Revisiting an old technique was a valuable reminder that progress is often easier to see when you look back at where you started
I also noticed that there are specks of dust on my piece. This is something I still have to be aware of when working at my desk.

My new favourite. LOVE this.
Aw thanks <3
