Technique: Different black earrings
Win: Yes
Challenge:
- To create a few black earrings with slightly different finishes
- To use matte, glitter, and varnish to test finishes
Lessons Learned:
- Glitter works beautifully on black clay and gives a striking contrast
- Sealing glitter with varnish dulls the sparkle slightly, so some finishes work better unsealed
- Matte and glitter together create a really balanced effect, almost like tiny pieces of midnight with starlight scattered across them
- Testing different finishes side by side helped me see how much the final surface changes the overall look of a piece
Confidence Level: 9/10
Notes:
This felt like a small experiment day, but a very useful one. Even though the shapes were simple, the different finishes completely changed the personality of each pair. I especially enjoyed the contrast between the soft matte texture and the bright glitter details.
