Technique: Layered pendant and matching studs
Win: Yes
Challenge
- To stretch green “gold” leaf across black clay to create an interesting layered effect for a round pendant
Lessons Learned
- I really love how this piece turned out. The layered effect feels rich and slightly mysterious, like polished stone hiding tiny flashes of treasure beneath the surface.
- I think the technique would become even more dramatic on a larger circular pendant where the stretched leaf has more room to breathe and break apart naturally.
- A layer of varnish completely changed the final look, deepening the contrast and giving the piece a smoother, more finished glow.
- The matching studs feel a little quieter beside the pendant. I suspect the effect loses some impact at a smaller scale, so this may work better for statement pieces than tiny accents.
